A DRUNKEN man jumped 25 feet off the first floor of Blackburn multi storey car park in an attempt to get away from police.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Darren John Hillary landed on a glass canopy, smashing it, before crashing to the floor unconscious.

As he regained consciousness paramedics were treating him but he immediately began to abuse them and refused to go to hospital for treatment.

Hillary, of Queen Victoria Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and criminal damage to the glass canopy. He was fined £90 and ordered to pay £200 compensation and £75 costs.

Margaret Duckworth, prosecuting, said the incident started outside Utopia nightclub when Hillary was abusive towards police officers. He was told to stop swearing and go on his way but hurled further abuse at the officers before running off.

As he ran along the first floor above King William Street Hillary rolled over a wall and landed on the glass canopy above Thomas Cook before falling to the floor. When officers ran down the stairs they found Hillary unconscious and covered in broken glass.

"He was breathing erratically and the officers immediately sent for an ambulance," said Mrs Duckworth." Paramedics were treating him when he came round and he immediately began to abuse them."
