IN reply to K Sowerbutts' comments (Letters, December 20) about Sir Cliff Richard's song 'Millennium Prayer,' I neither hate nor like Cliff, but I do think he has had his day, yet, obviously, a lot of people still love his work, which is fair enough.
But I think Mr Sowerbutts is totally wrong when he states that Cliff has released the song "in an effort to gain more fame, or make use of it for commercialisation."
It was well-documented that the song was released to raise badly-needed money for charities, such as Child's Promise, which, in my eyes, is doing far more good than bad.
If it was for Cliff Richard's personal gain, then I would be behind Mr Sowerbutts, whingeing along with him, but, as it stands, he has not got a valid point.
M SHACKLETON (Mr), Dowry Street, Accrington.
