PADIHAM FC's last senior games of the Millennium brought disappointment to their first team as they went out of the Hollands-sponsored Lancashire Amateur Shield competition, going down 4-2 away to fellow West Lancashire League opponents Garstang FC.

It brought despair to the Storks reserve side who had their West Lancashire Football League Reserve Division One fixture with Springfields Reserves at the Arbories abandoned after 65 minutes because of an increasingly freezing and dangerous playing surface, and it brought delight to their third team who beat Goodshaw United 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the Burnley and District League's Bob Emmett Cup competition to reach the semi-finals.

Against Garstang, Padiham took the lead when Anthony McCluskey converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute.

Garstang equalised before half time, but McCluskey restored the Storks lead 15 minutes into the second half.

A poor clearance by Padiham's goalkeeper allowed Garstang to equalise for a second time but it was Garstang's third goal that decided the tie.

Padiham substitute Mark Allen was adjudged by the referee to have fouled his Garstang opponent when challenging for the ball. This not only resulted in a penalty, but also brought a red card which meant the Storks had to play out the last 15 minutes with only 10 men, and chasing a 3-2 deficit.

Lee Chambers very nearly scored what would have been a deserved equaliser. However, it was Garstang who snatched a fourth goal minutes from time - and with it a quarter-final place.

Padiham A fully deserved their 3-0 away win over Goodshaw Utd in the Bob Emmett Cup quarter-final tie at Higher Towneley.

Lee Derbyshire shot the Storks into a 1-0 first half lead, while goals from Mark Lane and David Birnie in the second half ensured Padiham's semi-final place.

Padiham's next competitive fixtures are not until Saturday, January 8, 2000.
