A TWENTY-foot Millennium Oak has put down its roots in Pendle after being transported to its new home from Holland.
The new addition to the landscape in Brierfield is part of local celebrations to mark the year 2000.
The five-year-old tree was carefully lifted into place behind Pendle Village Mill shops complex by crane yesterday watched by residents and officials.
The project is part of a programme of environmental improvements that are taking place along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in the town.
Local people were involved in the planning of the scheme and practical work.
Nick Taylor, of environmental group Groundwork East Lancashire, one of the partners behind the planting scheme, said: "We wanted to celebrate the arrival of the new millennium in a novel way and came up with the idea of planting a special commemorative tree."
