A YOUNG leukaemia sufferer who spent last Christmas in hospital is revelling in festive fun after his dream came true - and he was flown to Lapland to meet Santa Claus.
Jake Scott, four, broke his arm last Christmas Eve and spent most of the night in casualty. Then later during the celebrations he developed an infection and had to be rushed into hospital.
To make up for the disappointment, the youngster has already been on a VIP trip to see Santa Claus in Lapland. The special visit was organised by the charity Wish Upon A Star. Television celebrities including stars from Coronation Street and Gladiators spent the day with Jake, his mum, Michelle, and 100 other children who are battling against illness.
They were treated to a festive meal, a ride on a reindeer sleigh and gifts from Santa.
Jake lives with his mum and dad, Michelle and Dave, and younger brother David, aged two, in Ratcliffe Street, Darwen.
Michelle said: "He had a brilliant day and we are determined to make sure this Christmas is nothing like last year.
"Jake only had four days at home because of his arm and then the infection, so it wasn't much fun for any of us."
Jake is in remission and having oral chemotherapy at home, along with regular check ups at The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in Pendlebury. The family will know next August if he has beaten the disease.
"There is a 50/50 chance the leukaemia will return but Jake is doing really well and we are all keeping our fingers crossed he will get the all clear in 2000, added Michelle.
