LEIGH EAST edged out Barrow Island 24-20.
Trailing at half time, East hit back after the break for only their second away win of the season.
MOM Gary Fletcher and Phil Gunning led by example, as did Mark Jones and U18 prop Shaun Pullman.
Two John Gunning penalties was all Leigh had to show for a poor first half performance, and they were lucky to keep the home side's score to an even dozen.
But after they break it was a different story and East hit back with two tries from Darren Hall and one from Penkywicz. John Gunning added three goals and two drops to clinch it.
In another close game, the A team maintained their promotion push with a 23-22 victory over Rylands A.
Player coach Bob Hoey scored what proved to be the vital one-pointer early in the first half.
MOM John Reynolds, Mick Shepherd, Craig Anderson and Kevin Hopkins scored tries. Austin Monks added three goals.
