FOR the fourth year in succession the Stonyhurst College First XV has laid claim to the undisputed title of champions of the North with impressive wins against all the leading rugby-playing schools in the region - Sedbergh, Lancaster, Hymers, Arnold and Ampleforth.
An otherwise undefeated run was spoilt early in the season by a very below par performance against Merchant Taylors. Next term, there will be a concentration on seven-a-side rugby at which the College were national champions last year, winning a total of four tournaments including the prestigious Rosslyn Park competition, which is the largest for schools anywhere in the world.
Three members of the team represented Lancashire Under-18s at the end of the term against Yorkshire - Ashley Soudah, Andrew Fuller and school captain Daniel Mackenzie.
