THERE was a surprise result in the Third Division when the bottom side Aztec were entertained by Westholme, also struggling in the lower half of the table.
There were some mixed results in the level doubles with the visitors getting the slight advantage by taking five of the events. Things however, were very different in the level doubles where the ladies of Westholme played much the better, but the men of Aztec equally responded with all the events finally being shared.
It was only as a result of better play and performance by Aztec in the mixed doubles that they recorded their second win of the season, even though they finished some 18 aces behind.
Lowly St Nicholas A gave a brave and spirited performance against Independent B in which there were some close games on the night, but with the damage being done by the visitors in the mixed doubles, St Nicholas are still in the relegation zone.
Salesbury A continue to dominate the Fifth Division, and it seems that there is nothing now that can stop them winning the championship and regaining their position in the Fourth Division at the first time of asking.
This week they dominated play against high-flying Blackburn Blinds and narrowly dropped one mixed doubles game. With all teams now playing the reverse fixtures, there does not appear to be anyone to catch the leaders. In the various Cup competitions, Pleckgate and Prince will not be taking part. Once again the competitions will be divided into three tournaments, with the Times Cup having two pools of five teams, the Smith Cup four pools of five, and the Wilson Plate two pools of six.
