BANK Holiday Monday sees St Helens Town and Prescot Cables meet at Hoghton Road in a historic derby.

It's the clubs' last game of the century. And, with both sides in buoyant mood, a festive feast is expected.

The action starts at 3pm

Town are second in the First North Western Trains League, while Cables are on the way up after a slow start to the campaign.

The clubs have featured in many stirring derbies since the Second World War, but their history goes back much further than that.

Football has been played at Cables' Hope Street ground - now Valerie Park for more than a century. And they have always maintained a continuity.

Town have had a more chequered past only re-establishing themselves since the war.

Town's next fixture after the derby is another mouthwatering encounter, when league leaders Vauxhall come to Hoghton Road for a 3pm kick-off.
