Northwich nil, Vulcan 14

VULCAN tackled their way to victory against a tream from several leagues higher than themselves.

The Vulcan pack lead the way with Kay, Boughey, Duffy and Evans playing out of their skin to win a fair share of the ball.

In poor conditions Vulcan decided to play a territorial game for the first quater and this worked well when Reynolds crashed in under the sticks after good build-up work by Jones, Griffiths and Bell. O'Kelly converted.

For the rest of the half Vulcan relied on counter-attacks, with scrum-half Millard leading the way.

The second half Vulcan saw camped on their own line for 20 minutes, with every player have to make try saving tackles, this infuriated the home side who gave away some penalties, to allow Vulcan breathing room. Vulcan managed to take control when Millard supported a break by one of the second rowers and scooted in under the uprights. O'Kelly converted.

This seemed to fire the Northwich side up and they started to play some attractive rugby, which gave them great position in the Vulcan 22 area, but great defence again kept the line unbreached.

Man of the match was Millard.
