SHAKERS skipper Nick Daws has turned down a move to Second Division rivals Gillingham.

The club's biggest earner, who signed a lucrative three-year-deal at the start of the season failed to agree terms with the Kent outfit after they came in with an offer believed to be in the region of £200,000.

While the influential skipper would undoubtedly be a great loss to the Shakers the money accrued would have been a Godsend to chairman Terry Robinson who is desperate to reduce the club's wage bill and raise new funds.

"The move did appeal but we couldn't agree terms," explained Daws.

"I considered it at great length but to move my family all that distance it had to be a very special offer for me.

"It's an expensive move to that part of the world and as far as I was concerned it wasn't worth my while financially.

"They seemed keen but we'll just have to see whether they come back now."

The Shakers ever-present is just one of a number of players that Robinson has had enquiries about and Oldham Athletic are believed to be ready to bid £80,000 for leading scorer Ian Lawson, an offer the skint Shakers might not be able to refuse.
