BUBBLY schoolgirl Becky Grogan is set to start the new millennium in top form after picking up a top prize award.
Artistic Becky,12, fought off tough competition at Fleetwood High School with her design for an eye-catching poster on the dangers of smoking.
Her colourful quit-the-habit picture was considered the cream of the crop by judges at the 11,000-pupil school.
Its slick slogan: 'Who Wants Cancer in 2000?' scored a hit with the voting panel and was snapped-up as the message for the new millennium. And on Friday (December 17) chairman of Wyre Primary Care Group, Dr Mark Spencer, will hand Becky her special prize - a personal CD player- during the school's morning assembly.
The 'healthy' picture contest was organised by Milton Street community youth worker Jackie Stanhope and the school's nursing sister Anne Bailey.
Pupils were also asked to complete a questionnaire relating to their own smoky habits and whether they wanted to quit. The results, which are expected to be available early in the new year, will help to produce guidelines for smoking and the young.
Peter Higham, head of Y8 at the school, said: "Becky has done very well. Many children in school took part in the contest and came up with some really good posters. But, the nurses thought that Becky's design was just the advert they needed for the new millennium."
Now, the youngster's poster will be displayed in school and at Milton Street Community Centre in a bid to stamp out the habit in 2000
