CUSTOMS and excise officers are investigating a haul of booze and tobacco seized in Ramsbottom.

Motorway police pulled over a Talbot panel van on the M66 on Friday night, fearing it was over loaded.

On checking the van's contents, officers discovered 3.5 tonnes of alcohol, including 150 cases of beer and 50 cases of wine.

There were also 22 kilos of hand rolling-tobacco.

Customs and Excise officers were contacted and are investigating. The driver was not arrested but inquiries are continuing.
