THINGS are taking shape in the revamped town centre with news that the Corporation Street entrance into Victoria Square will close for good on January 4 next year as work progresses on its £1million improvement package.
The road will close for good at its junction with Birchley Street and people are advised to use alternative routes to travel through the town either via the Linkway or Standish Street.
The recent opening of the bridge in Standish Street is already helping traffic flow around the town and now re-opens access to Park Road (A58).
The council apologises for the current disruption in and around the town centre due to roadworks, but says "bear with us - it will all be well worth it".
More than £5million of Government grant is being used to improve access to cope with increased traffic attracted by better shopping facilities and the increase in new business and retail developments. It will also bring isolated patches of derelict land back into use, helping to rid this key area of the town of eyesores.
The Atlas Street project is on schedule to open in the spring bringing yet further road improvements for the town centre.
