A LOCAL school has won a prestigious national award for its involvement with the local community.
After a successful Ofsted inspection and a Chartermark assessment for a high standard of service to the public, Broadway Community High School has now also been recognised for its extensive community links and will join 270 other schools from all over Britain when they will receive the Schools Curriculum Award 2000 at a ceremony in London.
Headteacher, Martin Cox, said he was delighted that the school's work had received national recognition. There are many activities run by staff and the friends of Broadway which give pupils the experience of working within the community which we regard as our greatest resource. The school will now be able to carry the logo of the award on its letterheads and will display the certificate in the entrance hall. Chairman of governors, Colin Barnett, praised the teachers and non-teaching staff at the school and also parents and local people who had contributed to the success.
Broadway was sponsored for the award by NGF Europe Ltd. with whom the school has a close industrial partnership link. Staff from NGF regularly attend Broadway training events so that pupils can gain the very best benefits from the partnership. NGF are also generous sponsors of the school's Merit Awards which reward good attendance and a positive approach to life.
Pupils from the school will be part of the group to travel to London's Barbican Centre next June when the award is to be presented.
