ACCORDING to the latest surveys, most people have still not made up their mind as to what they are going to do to mark the millennium.
But there is still time to do something positive to mark this unique moment in time.
I urge readers to make sure their employer signs up to Children's Promise so that they and their colleagues can donate through their payroll to help children everywhere.
More than 3,500 employers around the country have already signed up to back the appeal, which is urging everyone to donate the value of one hour's earnings to tackle the problems facing children - abuse, poverty, neglect, running away, school exclusion.
Please take part if you can.
All the money received will be divided between seven major charities working with children - Barnardos, BBC Children in Need, ChildLine, the Children's Society, Comic Relief, NCH Action For Children and the NSPCC. They will use the money to fund vital new services which would not be possible without Children's Promise.
Employers can still join in and donate to Children's Promise through payroll giving. Or if anyone wants to make an individual donation they can go to Marks and Spencer stores, to branches of HSBC or their own bank, or to any post office counter in the country.
Ring 0870 607 1999 for details. It could make a difference to a child's life - and that must be the best way to mark the millennium.
ULRIKA JONSSON, for Children's Promise, Bristol BS38 7ER.
