A Christmas Day tragedy struck a Nelson family when a 10-year-old boy was found dead in his bed.
Police today said the death was a complete mystery but there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Paramedics were called to the youngster's home after his body was discovered on Christmas morning.
Ambulancemen took him the Burnley General Hospital where his death was confirmed.
The boy's distraught family have told police that he had shown no signs of illness when he went to bed on Christmas Eve. A post mortem examination was being carried out in Burnley today.
Police say his family are devastated by the loss.
Det Inspector Dave Lee, who is dealing with the incident, said the tragedy was a complete mystery.
Police are not releasing the name of the youngster but are hoping to release more details after the post mortem examination.
