JUNIOR members of Wilpshire Golf Club are to be given cheaper subscriptions in a bid to attract youngsters to the game.

In the past, juniors reaching adult entry have had to pay full subscriptions. Now, from the age of 22, fees will start fairly modestly and increase annually to the age of 30.

Juniors joining the club before their 18th birthday will also be excluded from paying an entrance fee.

"We are acting on an English Golf Union request to all clubs to encourage youngsters to take up the game, explained Mr Harry Aspden, club secretary.

"The club has tailored subscriptions to alleviate the problem of juniors having difficulty in meeting full subscriptions at such an early age."

The club has launched another incentive to attract adult members to the club. If they wish, newcomers can now spread the entrance fee over 10 years.

The ninth and 10th tees have been extended and re-turfed and work is progressing to realign and re-turf the 12th tee.

Once all the work is completed, the club is to apply for the standard scratch for the course to be lifted from 68 to 69.
