FOLLOWING an enforced break due to the recent adverse weather and the Christmas and Millennium festivities, Accrington get back into action on Saturday, January 8, 2000 with an eagerly awaited home fixture against Wigan Rose Bridge (kick off 2pm) at Highams Playing Fields.
After a run of seven consecutive away fixtures culminating in a tremendous win at Latchford Albion 24-0 in early December, the club and players are itching to get back into action and give their supporters a chance to witness the transformation in the club's fortunes since the start of the league campaign.
Only two points now separate the club from a top three league position . . . a position hard to image at the start of the season. During the break, the players have been training hard with new-found confidence for what they know will be a crucial stage of the season.
The club are keeping their feet firmly on the ground however, as they are only too well aware of the dangers of being over-confident and underestimating some very strong opponents in their division.
Coach Paul Kidd is happy to announce a fully fit squad of players to select from for a game against their Wigan rivals who will be out to avenge a home defeat which they suffered at the hands of Accrington in late September.
It was Accrington's narrow win at Rose Bridge which became the turning point in their season and saw the best first half of a league campaign for many years.
