FIVE young entrepreneurs from Ribblesdale High School, Clitheroe, have won an all-expenses paid trip to Brussels.

Steven Hickey, Laura Eastham, both 16, Andrew Fletcher, Tara Begi and Adam Kenyon, all 15, will leave on Friday to compete in the next stage of this year's Young Enterprise contest.

Phoenix, which produces designs on glass as well as decorative boxes and picture frames, is the school's entry for the competition and the pupils will represent the 25 youngsters running the firm.

To win the trip to Brussels they had to market their firm in a television-style commercial speaking in French, which they will have to perform again in front of 600 people from all over Europe.

The pupils will be accompanied by French teacher Deborah Thorpe and Tina Carswell from Rectella International, the business advisors for the firm.

The Young Enterprise contest offers youngsters aged 15 to 19 the chance to run their own mini-firms with help from local businesses.

And last year's Ribblesdale firm, Paragon, produced a board game and an American-style leaving book.

They reached the national finals of the competition, with a four-day all expenses paid trip to London for the firm's 24 members.
