THE East Lancashire Sports Club reported a loss of £632 for their last financial year.

Club accounts for the year ending September 30, 1999 show that the deficit was cut from £3,611 from the previous 12 months. Income rose from £59,909 to £82,047 thanks largely to increased bar takings and the movements of surpluses in the accounts from the club's various sections, while expenditure went up from £73,481 to £83,268. The net loss was £1,221 which with adjustments for club section surpluses was reduced to £632.

The cricket section of the Blackburn-based club, which finished second in the Lancashire League last season, reported a reduced profit of £3,904.

The squash section profit was slightly down at £4,349 and the smaller tennis section, which is set for changes to bring it closer to the main set-up, was out of pocket. However, the bowls section profits rose to £1,403.

Bar profits were up with the main bar takings at Alexandra Meadows passing £100,000 for the first time, giving a profit figure of £33,429 compared with £25,973 in the previous year.

At the AGM, a presentation was made to Richard Stirrup who stepped down as club chairman after 17 years' service on the committee to be replaced by John Jackson.
