PLANS to put down speed "cushions" on a busy street seem to have sent local people to sleep.

Pendle Council sent 70 letters to residents who would be affected by the traffic calming scheme in Railway Street but only two replied - a 2.9 per cent return rate. Both were in favour of the project to slow traffic and one wanted traffic calming to be extended to nearby Waidshouse Road as well.

Despite the apathy, raised speed cushions will be put down in Railway Street. Their design and location will be decided following talks with bus company Stagecoach.
