LEIGH Cricket Club is backing bowling - of the crown green variety.
As part of the Millennium celebrations at their Beech Walk ground, they are planning a competition for the town's young people.
The club's Bowling Section have set the tournament, for 14/16-year-olds, for May 1-5.
The first day will feature 16 players (girls and boys) from Lowton High, May 2 is Westleigh High, May 3 Bedford High and May 4 (St Mary's High).
May 5 will be Champions Day with the best four from each school playing off to decide the overall winner.
Bowling section chairman Stan Walmsley said: "There has not been any opportunity before in this area for youngsters to get involved in bowling.
"This tournament has been greatly welcomed by the four schools and we are looking forward to it.
"We will be providing all the facilities and equipment for the youngsters to take part, and, where needed, we will also provide basic coaching before the tournament."
