LIQUIDATORS are looking for buyers for Pooles Pies in Railway Road and Bradshawgate (pictured), Leigh, which closed unexpectedly on Monday afternoon.
The Pooles Pies name - with shops throughout the greater Wigan area - is owned by Martin Davey and Ann Allen of M&A Bakeries in Swan Meadow Mill, Poolstock, Wigan. They bought it 18 months ago from Whelco Holdings owned by JJB Sports entrepreneur Dave Whelan. The shops are leased from Whelco.
The Railway Road shop was a former Rathbones outlet renamed after Mr Whelan bought the Wigan-based bakery.
A spokesman for the offical receivers, Manchster-based HLB Kidsons said they were looking for a buyer. The bakery was continuing to trade in the short term to complete existing orders.
The firm have made 100 staff redundant.
