PRESTON'S popular Maritime Festival has been scrapped after sponsors pulled out.
Plans for the fifth annual event on Preston Docks hit troubled waters when organisers Preston Partnerships failed to attract big money backers.
And the event was finally sunk when The Ribble Link Trust, which represents canal boat owners, said it would be concentrating on its work towards constructing a new canal between the Ribble and the Lancaster Canal. The two-day event attracted more than 100,000 visitors last year.
Andrew Harris, from Preston Partnerships, said: "The major backers are essential if this project is to work. It has been getting harder every year to get the money."
