I SHARE with John Blunt his concern (LET, January 26) regarding the proposal to remove Section 28 of the Local Government Act, which is intended to protect children from unsuitable sexual information.
Later, Greg Pope, Hyndburn's MP, indicated he will vote for its removal.
I feel he has seriously misjudged the public's perception of this matter, for the majority would prefer the retention of Section 28. The Government blandly tries to reassure the public that suitable guidelines will be in place. Guidelines are useless in practice, because they can be ignored with impunity, having no force in law.
