A LOCAL Child Development Centre has been awarded a Charter Mark by the Government for its work with special needs children.
Blenheim House, in Newton Drive, Blackpool, has built up a reputation for its continued support of Fylde families which have children with learning difficulties.
The centre was set up initially to provide assessment and ongoing care, but then moved to specially adapted premises on Newton Drive.
The Charter Mark Award has acknowledged the vast array of facilities at Blenheim House, including rooms for clinic and therapy sessions, video surveillance, a multi-sensory play area and relaxed surroundings in which to talk to parents. Consultant paediatrician Megan Thomas told how staff are thrilled at the award. She said: "Knowing the pressures faced by our families, everyone has worked extremely hard to ensure the service really meets their needs.
"We can offer a variety of support services. For example we have an informal drop-in for parents every Wednesday morning, home visits and individual support at a time of crisis."
Although receiving the Charter Mark award from the government will no doubt raise the profile of Blenheim House, it had already earned a unique place in the heart of the local community.
Philip Scully, chief executive of the Blackpool Community Health trust, believes Blenheim House more than deserves its award. "The centre has a highly dedicated team of staff who often go beyond the call of duty in their efforts to provide a truly exceptional service for the Fylde's very special children," he said.
