Parkonians 22, Vulcan 21
VULCAN left a brave comeback until too late to claim the spoils on the Wirral.
They trailed 8-nil at half time and things went from bad to worse. With 25 minutes to go they were 22-nil, behind but suddenly the Vulcan side woke up with with Melia, Kay and Jones providing the foundation for the for the backs to exploit gaps.
Laughton running in a try, converted by Millard. And moments later Smith finished off a backs move to dart over the whitewash. Millard converted. Once again Vulcan got the ball and loose-forward Bell who crashed in from a ruck, Millard converted. This brought the score to 22-21, with five minute left and Vulcan were attacking on the Parkonians line with another try just seconds away when the referee blew for time. Vulcan 2nd 31, Parkonians 2nd 0
Vulcan continue to show top form. It was not long before D. Griffiths sent stand-off F.Healey crashing overt. The next 20 minutes saw Vulcan camped in their own 22 as they battled against a strong wind. Once Vulcan got into their oppositions line they had various chances of scoring, but the visitors scrambling defence kept them out. But just before half-time winger Holland crashed in at the corner to give Vulcan a 10-0 lead.
In the second half Vulcan continued their running rugby and it was not long before Vulcan scored with centre P.Healey sending winger P.Baynes darting in at the corner. Once again from the kick-off Vulcan ran the ball from their own line and went full length of the pitch for winger Holland to score. Moments later Vulcan were in the visitors 22 and this time scrum-half Evans scored. Holland grabbed his hat-trick moments later, which O'Kelly converted.
But the best try was the last one with Vulcan running the ball from their own line and the ball going through everyones hands in a flowing move that allowed Holland to grab his fourth try of the match. Lawrenson was Man of the match.
