BURY'S Under-19 side took a major step nearer a Wembley final this week.
Goals from Lee Connell and Adam Martin were enough to give them a 2-1 victory at Sheffield United in the Youth Alliance Under-19 Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
The win earned the Shakers a place in the quarter-finals and a trip to Scarborough on February 28.
The final is to be played after the Auto Windscreens Shield final on Sunday, April 16.
One of Bury FC's crop of blossoming young talent has earned England honours.
Left-sided midfield player or full back David Borley is currently with the England Schools under-18 squad preparing for a series of six internationals.
Borley turned his back on Newcastle United four years ago when they ruled that he couldn't play for his local Wallsend Boys Club team - the outfit in which Peter Beardsley's talent first emerged.
The 17-year-old Monkseaton High School pupil is currently on extended schoolboy forms with the Shakers and is due to return to Gigg Lane in the summer to start his YTS apprenticeship.
