A NEW sports hall for Parr High School and the improvement of science and technology facilities at a number of schools in the borough head the list of funding bids which St Helens Education Committee is making to the government.
On-going repairs to a number of school buildings are also in the programme which requires total funding of more than £2 million under the New Deal for Schools scheme introduced by the Government. A decision is due in April.
The committee is also hoping that additional Government funding will enable it to replace some of the older temporary classrooms at borough schools. St Mary's Infant School and Wargrave CE Primary head the priority list.
"Providing improved accommodation for schools is an important aspect of raising our standards generally," said Education Committee chairman, Councillor Andy Bowden.
"A better environment will support our students to achieve their best."
