MEDICAL opinion has ruled out surgery on Heath Cruickshank's damaged ankle. Instead of an operation, Leigh's top Aussie forward will undergo an intensive physiotherapy programme in an effort to get him back on the field within a couple of weeks.
Hilton Park boss Ian Millward feared he could lose Cruickshank for up to 12 weeks if surgery was needed to repair ligament damage. "We're not out of the woods yet, but it's positive news," he said.
"The specialist is confident that, with some intensive physio and special strengthening exercises, Heath could be back on the field in two or three weeks."
Junior international goalkicking full-back Neil Turley has joined Leigh from Wigan.
The son of Leigh's assistant coach Norman has been released after his career was impeded by a knee injury.
"He is going to join us for a month," added Millward. "It gives us time to look at him, and him look at us. He is looking to get his career back on track and we're delighted he has chosen to join his hometown club."
