FOLLOWING the conviction of Dr Harold Shipman, who murdered 15 of his patients, St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority has announced that it will be reviewing its current systems for monitoring GP practices.
Dr Shipman, 54, from Hyde, Great Manchester, was found guilty on Monday of killing 15 women patients and sentenced to prison for life.
To try and ensure that nothing like this every happens again Health Authorities nationwide will probably be reviewing their procedures to monitor family doctors.
A spokesman for St Helens and Knowsley Health Authority, said: "This is clearly a shocking and tragic case and our thoughts are with the families of Dr Shipman's victims.
"Along with other Health Authorities nationwide, we will be reviewing current monitoring systems to see what lessons can be learnt from the West Pennine experience.
"However, we must stress that this is a highly unusual case and we hope it will not adversely effect our patients' relationships with their local family doctor."
