FORMER Blackburn Rovers and Burnley star Roy Stephenson (pictured) has died of stomach cancer, aged 67.
He had been fighting the disease since October and died at his home in Ipswich on Friday afternoon.
He joined Burnley as a junior in 1949 and made 79 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals.
He played for Rovers between November 1957 and March 1959 and scored five goals in 21 league appearances.
His finest moments were for Ipswich Town and he helped Ipswich, then managed by Alf Ramsey, to win the second and first division championships in successive seasons. The successes prompted the Football Association to appoint Alf Ramsey England team boss.
