A MOTORCYCLIST died and his pillion passenger was injured when their bike was in a head-on smash with a car on Saturday evening.
Police said David Firth, 23, of Bolton Road, Aspull, was driving his Suzuki 600 machine along Bolton Road, Belmont, when it crossed on to the opposite carriageway as he tried to negotiate a left-hand bend.
It collided with a Renault Laguna travelling in the opposite direction.
Mr Firth died and his passenger Anthony Fisher, 24, of Sandy Lane, Hindley, suffered a fractured left shoulder. He was treated at Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened at 5.35pm, to contact them on 01257 269021.
