THE disused Padiham branch line will be kept free of litter, Railtrack has promised Burnley MP Peter Pike.
Mr Pike contacted the rail company after complaints from local residents about fly-tipping and litter on the line.
Production manager for Railtrack Mike Cowman, told the MP: "Railtrack's contractor has undertaken a major clearance of the area and examined the fencing with a view to upgrading it in due course.
"There is evidence that the nature of the littering is from passers-by. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done by Railtrack to police this unwholesome activity."
Railtrack says even though the line is disused at present it will still be maintained and the company will respond to complaints from local residents.
