SIX pupils from Alder Grange High School, Rawtenstall, rolled up their sleeves and washed more than 40 cars and vans in three hours.
The aim of the activity, which took place at Rawtenstall Fire Station, was to raise money for their Iceland 2000 school trip in July. Eleven children and two staff will spend one week camping in Iceland but a target of £1,500 for expenses must be raised by May.
The group has already collected £500 through sponsored events and the weekend car washing event raised a further £115. An April concert and a sponsored abseil in May are also planned.
During the school trip the pupils will visit geographical places of interest in the south west of the country, including a glacier, hot spouting geysers, a volcano and fjords.
