THREE more sixth-form students at Blackburn's Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School have been offered places to study at Cambridge and Oxford.

Caroline Sourbuts, 18, Simon Lee, 17, and Richard Roberts, 18, are now working hard to ensure their A-level results are good enough for them to take up their offers of places in September.

The trio join six other sixth-form students at the school to receive Oxbridge offers.

Caroline, from Wilpshire, has been offered a place at New Hall, Cambridge, to read maths. She is studying A-level chemistry, maths and further maths and physics. A member of the school's swimming and hockey teams, she attended Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and recently travelled to Romania with a charity to help rebuild an orphanage.

Simon, from Blackburn, has been offered a place on an engineering course at Christ's College, Cambridge. He is studying graphical communications, maths and further maths and physics. A keen martial arts exponent, he recently achieved his eighth cup in tai kwondo and he plays football for a Chinese team as well as helping his parents in the family takeaway business.

Richard, from Penwortham, has also been offered a place to read engineering at Queen's College, Oxford. He is studying geography, physics, maths and further maths, and is on the school rugby team. In summer he will be captain of the Lancashire schools sailing team at the national championships in Plymouth in July.
