A PUBLIC meeting will be held in Sawley tonight to discuss plans to improve the habitat for fish in two Lancashire rivers.
North West Water and the Environment Agency are planning to change the way water is abstracted from the Rivers Brennand and Whitendale, which are used to supply Blackburn with drinking water.
The aim is to balance the demands placed on the rivers by customers with environmental needs.
The planned improvements would help salmon and trout reach spawning grounds.
Options include closing some or all of the intakes on the Brennand and Whitendale, and six possible locations for a new intake and pumping station further downstream.
Anglers, landowners, environmental groups and local authorities are among 150 organisations already consulted about the proposals.
A focus group will be formed at tonight's meeting to review the options.
The meeting will be held at the Spread Eagle Hotel, Sawley, at 7.30pm tonight.
