A MULTI-MILLION pound aid package to help aerospace firms go green to win more business has been unveiled.
The Government is putting up the money to encourage companies to work together on developing new technology to replace old pneumatic and hydraulic systems on aircraft with electrical ones.
Electric power systems for engines and wings means improvements in aircraft weight, cost and reliability which will improve environmental performance.
"Research into these technologies is a high priority in the UK aeronautics industry," said Competitiveness Minister Alan Johnson.
"It means better systems for UK manufacturers in the civil aircraft industry and more success opportunities for UK businesses overseas," said Mr Johnson.
"And the more competitive firms are the more job security there is for workers."
Bids for help under the programme must consist of at least two partners.
Companies interested should contact the DTI by February 25 on 020 721 1155 or email to john.woolf@air.dti.gov.uk
