PUPILS were inspired by the watercolours of the artist JMW Turner when they took part in a poetry writing workshop at the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery.
English teacher Adrian Thirkell arranged the workshop for the third year pupils of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, and the boys were encouraged to use Turner's early works as the base for developing their creative writing skills.
Mr Thirkell said: "I was very impressed with the standard of work produced by the boys, who really looked behind the paintings themselves and explored the movement and imagery that Turner's paintings depict. They will now have the opportunity to complete the poetry they have begun, back in the classroom."
The exhibition, "JMW Turner - Origins of Genius" runs until February 26.
