PUPILS from several of Burnley's infant and junior schools will see a more interesting side to their maths lessons when they swap their classrooms for a supermarket.
Barden Infants School was the first local school to sign up for The Big Sum event, an educational activity to be launched in 232 Asda stores on Monday.
Staff at Burnley's Asda are already preparing themselves for the influx of youngsters to the store every Tuesday for the next few weeks.
Manager's secretary Pam Ferguson said: "The children will be split into groups of varying abilities and will be given a work sheet which they must fill in, with questions such as 'how many boxes of apples can you see?' and 'how many are green or red?'.
"There will also be a trolley in a quieter corner with all sorts of things in it and the children will add up all the prices."
Students from Ivy Bank High School have also been offered a chance to take advantage of the scheme by getting involved in the sales side of the business.
