MEMBERS of Daneshouse Community Centre, Burnley, celebrated their move into the 21st century by introducing two new projects in one day.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Councillor Eddie Fisk and Mrs Pat Chadwick, launched the Burnley Telematics and Teleworking Centre Ltd, and Community Multilingual Services Ltd.
Burnley Telematics is a community-based project which provides lap-top computer training to individuals, organisations, companies and people with disabilities and is currently running in the Daneshouse, Calder, Burnley Wood and Brunshaw areas. It is financed by money from Europe, the government and Burnley Council.
Almost 200 people gathered to see the launch of Community Multilingual Services Ltd, which provides translation and interpretation in various languages to local authorities, courts, firms of solicitors, social services, benefit agencies, health authorities and other institutions.
The firm, based in Elm Street, offers a service seven days a week and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Single Regeneration Budget.
