CHILDREN who have experienced emotional or behavioural difficulties are set to benefit from a new centre.
The Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) at Shaftesbury House in Chorley, which was set up to reintegrate children back into mainstream schools, has been replaced by a new unit at the former Earnshaw Bridge School, Leyland.
The new centre, Golden Hill PRU, aims to provide individual education programmes for each pupil which may include social skills programmes, self-esteem work, positive behaviour management and problem solving.
Pupils continue National Curriculum studies during their time at the unit. Shaftesbury House will now be used to accommodate secondary age pupils experiencing difficulties in their mainstream schools.
County Coun Richard Toon took part in the opening ceremony with MP David Borrow and met some of the primary age children from Chorley and South Ribble who attend the centre.
