GETTING "roped in" for an abseil challenge - that's the deputy head and caretaker of a local school.
Teacher Claire Moseley and caretaker John Chant, of Unsworth CP School, will become daredevils when they take part in a sponsored abseil for the Cancer Research Campaign.
The event will be held at Manchester's Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel this Sunday (Feb 13).
And the abseil will be a poignant way for John to raise money for the charity.
Every year since his father died of cancer, the school caretaker has raised money for cancer research.
And this time around, deputy head Claire is also taking part.
John said; "My father died of cancer 15 years ago. At that time, I decided to do some fund raising in his memory every year.
"Two years ago, I abseiled down the Ramada Hotel in Manchester for the Cancer Research Campaign, and last year I did a collection. Next year, I might do a parachute jump."
As he's done an abseil before, John will be giving Claire the benefit of his experience. But he doesn't doubt she'll find it an adrenaline-pumping experience.
"I had no problem doing the abseil at the Ramada because I can cope with heights," he added.
"But when I got to the bottom, I felt all jittery. We'll see if it happens at the bottom of the Piccadilly abseil."
The Jarvis Hotel abseil is higher than the Ramada at 185ft. Those brave enough to attempt it will be given full training, including a trial run down a stairwell on the day.
