TWO Blackburn men went on a wrecking spree as they walked home from the pub on a Sunday night. Blackburn magistrates heard they targeted cars in Leamington Road, breaking wing mirrors as they passed.
And stipendiary magistrate Jonathon Finestein told James Martin McCarron and Joseph David Greenwood that if they had had previous convictions they would have been sent straight to prison.
"This was disgraceful behaviour," said Mr Finestein. "For no reason at all you attacked other people's cars and I do not see why this should be accepted. Why should people have to pay because you drink yourself silly and then go round doing stupid things. Instead of doing stupid things you can do some community service and, I warn you, if you fail to do these orders prison is the alternative," he added.
McCarron, 24, of London Road, and Greenwood, 22, of Tenby Close, both pleaded guilty to three charges and were each ordered to do 60 hours community service and pay £64 compensation. At an earlier hearing a list of similar offences to be taken into consideration, had been put forward by the prosecution but these had not been accepted by the defence.
