I AM writing regarding the article headed 'Warning On Scramble Bikes' (Star, February 4).
My eight-year-old is one of these "scramblers who have become a menace." My son does not ride on the public highways and stays clear of people using the facilities they use.
This is quite contrary to the "travellers" who have infested my local area. These people drive their transit vans at all speeds around Sutton. They put their caravans wherever and whenever they like, leaving St Helens Council tax payers to foot their clean-up bills.
My son rides his bike on Sutton Moss as I have before him. Contrary to Mr Deakin's suggestion re: "the site provided for biker's use", this site was open Sundays only, at set times and at a price. This site has now had a huge track-type digger run straight through the middle of it (housing project at Bold) thus rendering it useless.
I wish people like Mr Deakin would get their priorities right. The "menaces" he talks about are not kids on bikes, but the menace this council is funding to live free and please themselves.
ANGRY Suttoner (name and address supplied).
