A GET-TOUGH pooch scoop campaign is being stepped-up to prevent the borough going to the dogs.
Council animal wardens are set to swoop in Leigh, Tyldesley and Atherton targeting problems of strays and pavement fouling.
Wigan Councillors are expected to back proposals for the canine crackdown in Hag Fold, Shakerley, Plank Lane and the Firs Lane areas, where most complaints have arisen.
Poop scoop bags and identity tags will be provided in a bid to promote responsible ownership
Borough environmental health director Bob Saunders warned: "The Animal Warden service will follow-up with intensive patrols.
"A tougher law enforcement approach will be taken: dogs will be seized and detained and owners will have to pay £25 for the return of their dog.
"Also cautions and prosecutions will be taken for dog fouling."
