A MAN who was told he had just two months to live is set to sail 200 miles around the coast of Scotland to raise cash for a Preston-based cancer charity.
John Hornby, of Lancaster Road, Garstang, was told last June that he had stomach cancer.
Surgeons at Chorley Hospital performed life-saving surgery to remove his stomach.
Now, seven months on, he plans to undertake a marathon sail in a 14-foot open dinghy, from Inverary, on the west coast of the highland country to Inverness on the east, in a bid to raise money for cancer charity Vine House, in Ribbleton. He said: "The charity helped me when I needed them and I owe them so much. I want to give something back.
"I'd also like to say a big thank you to Dr Mughal and all his staff at Chorley Hospital for all their help."
The Cromwell Road charity, now in its fifth year, is used by around 400 patients every month.
It has three charity shops: at the junction of Plungington Road and Ripon Road, in Preston, Berry Lane, in Longridge and New Hall Lane, in the town centre.
John, who is married with a son and daughter, will take to the high seas on June 5, this year, and is hoping to rope-in at least £5,000 to start a children's bereavement fund for the charity.
If you would like to help John, sponsor forms can be collected from the Citizen offices at 3 Winckley Court, Chapel Street, Preston.
