A DAD who smashed glass in a neighbour's door had been subjected to "disgraceful" treatment by the complainant, who had earlier knocked down his daughter, Burnley magistrates heard.
Malcolm Turner, 43, was found by police with his hand bleeding, when they were called by Lawrence Baxter after he saw the door of Turner's home closing.
Turner, of Sunderland Street, Burnley, was conditionally discharged for 12 months and ordered to pay £35 costs and £30 compensation. He admitted criminal damage.
Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said Mr Baxter was at home at 10pm when he heard a bang, followed by the sound of breaking glass.
There had been problems in the past between them and he looked out and saw the defendant's door closing.
Dylan Bradshaw, defending, said Turner was a family man, who had been subjected to disgraceful treatment by the aggrieved.
Last year Mr Baxter knocked down the defendant's daughter, the incident had been made the subject of litigation and the aggrieved had been receiving letters from Turner's solicitors.
Turner returned home and was told by his children Mr Baxter had been spying on them and saying things.
He decided to go and speak to Mr Baxter, knocked on the door too hard and a panel of glass broke. There were no threats of violence and no public disorder.
Mr Bradshaw added the defendant had tried to move and there was far more to the case than either side could go into.
