BUTCHER John Herbert had a big stake on the outcome of a crunch match between two beefy Rugby League teams.
For he'd bet the lads from Thatto Heath they wouldn't beat neighbours Haydock in the final of the Lancashire Cup at Knowsley Road.
A sponsor of the Heath club, he'd promised the squad a steak apiece if they collected the silverware.
Determined Heath brought home the bacon with a 30-18 victory. And big John, who has shops in Thatto Heath and Chain Lane, was only too happy to hand over the goods to the county champs.
